Fiji National Bible Forum Focuses on Teamwork to Combat Bible Poverty

The Fiji National Bible Forum took place at the Nasinu Revival Church on March 25th, 2024,, highlighting the importance of teamwork in addressing the issue of Bible poverty in Fiji. The forum centered around the theme of Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, emphasizing the significance of collaboration and unity in tackling this challenge.

The event commenced with a warm welcome by the General Secretary of the Bible Society of the South Pacific, Mr Miller, who set the context by shedding light on the prevalence of Bible poverty in Fiji. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the General Secretary highlighted the collaborative efforts undertaken by the Bible Society of the South Pacific (BSSP), Papua New Guinea, and Australia. In 2021, these organizations signed an agreement to work together in reaching people in Fiji, the Pacific, and beyond with the message of God’s Word.

The Fiji National Bible Forum, functioning as a branch of the SP Bible Forum, unveiled a dedicated website during the event. This platform aims to facilitate the exchange of information, ideas, and resources among participants, fostering a collective approach in the fight against Bible poverty. The website will serve as a valuable resource hub, raising awareness and promoting effective strategies.

Renowned guest speaker Reverend Rokosawa delivered a thought-provoking address, emphasizing the scope and factors contributing to Bible poverty. He stressed that maintaining a deep and personal connection with the Scriptures is crucial, both at an individual level and within communities. Reverend Rokosawa expressed his gratitude for the collaborative efforts of the BSSP and reiterated the need for competency and consistency in reading, studying, understanding, and sharing the Bible.

The forum featured presentations from various ministries and organizations actively involved in combating Bible poverty in Fiji. Representatives from Youth With A Mission (YWAM), Wycliffe Bible Translators, Know Your Bible Ministry, and WEC shared their initiatives and experiences, ranging from Bible translation to audio Bible projects and theological education. These presentations highlighted ongoing efforts to provide access to the Scriptures and promote engagement with the Word of God.

The Fiji National Bible Forum concluded with the formulation of action plans based on the discussions held during the group sessions. These plans included strategies to promote Bible reading, cultivate a genuine desire for studying the Scriptures, and combat Bible poverty on individual, family, community, and national levels.

The forum highlighted the significance of teamwork and collaboration in addressing Bible poverty in Fiji. By combining resources, knowledge, and efforts, the participants expressed their commitment to ensuring that the Word of God remains accessible to all Fijians. The Fiji National Bible Forum serves as a platform for ongoing collaboration, signaling a united front in the fight against Bible poverty and the promotion of Bible engagement throughout the nation.
